Serendipity Installation

DATABASE REQUIRED

A database is required to install this script. If you have not setup a database yet, please do so prior to installing by following the steps in the database creation tutorial. Once you have setup a database, continue on with the tutorial below.

DOWNLOAD

Download the latest version of Serendipity from the Serendipity web site. Extract the file locally to your computer.

CONFIGURATION

No configuration necessary.

UPLOAD

Generally you will want the weblog to be the main site, so upload all files and folders to the main folder on the server (httpdocs) via FTP. Change the permissions as follows:

httpdocs folder - 757
templates_c/ - 757
uploads/ - 757

SETUP

Run the setup by visiting http://www.example.com/serendipity_admin.php.

A preinstallation check will run. If everything checks out, click Simple Installation

Database Settings

Database type: MySQL
Database host: localhost (should work)
Database user: database username
Database password: database user password
Database name: database name

General Settings

Admin username: administrator username
Admin password: administrator password
Real name: administrator real name
Admin email: administrator email address
Blog name: blog name
Blog description: blog description
Language: Choose from the dropdown menu

Appearance and Options

Use WYSIWYG editor: choose Yes or No

Once done entering the information above, click Complete installation

Serendipity has been successfully installed. click Visit your new blog here

SECURITY/CLEANUP

After setup is complete, change the permission for the httpdocs folder back to 755.
