Update?

Spoke to Support a few hours back and they said there was an issue with the file system which is why the server was down.

Any update on this?

Thanks

It's a work in progress. The old server is in a bad way. We are trying to save it but may need a reformat.

This is the longest the servers ever been down I think.

Hopefully it will be sorted soon.

Would appreciate a heads up when it is, thanks!

Sorry for the lack of updates. Before I crashed out for the evening I thought I had sent a message on the mailing list but now I look I see it is unsent.

Taurus has been suffering from poor performance for a few weeks and were intending to replace it. I didn't actually think it would die, although that appears to have happened now.

So what we are doing is copying the data off the 4 drive RAID 5 array onto a 2tb USB device. We will the replace all the hardware, load a new OS and copy the data back. This should all be done by the start of business Monday morning US EST. The server was originally built with Raid 5 and a 32 bit OS instead of the standard Raid 10 and 64 bit OS and this gives us a chance to fix that. When the server comes back up there will be a nocticable performance boost.

Thanks for your patience thus far.

Well, it's taken longer. Just in case anyone is watching this thread.

The email notification from NexDog this morning 9:21AM EST,
Quote:
This should be done in 2 hours. After that we'll copy over stored mail but all services will be up.
Although the email from support staff (9:51 AM EST) said 4 hours, not 2:
Quote:
We are restoring now all data from the old hard drive, the mysql databases are already restored. Doing http files now, http will be up in 4 hours and then we'll do emails.

Thanks for your patience.
This outage is indeed a big one.

It's not that big, well within the 99.99% uptime if you really think about it.

24 x 356 = 8760 hrs, servers been down for 30 or so - 0.0034%

I have clients breathing down my back for over 18 hrs, we're 12 hrs ahead of the US and having mail down on monday morning is blasphemous.

Thing with computer hardware is these things happen, Murphy's law.

At least here you get a response and know someone's on it.

I've had BIG hosting companies ignore support requests till Monday 9am PST.

Why I've been with HN for 9 years, I've known marriages that don't last as long.

Not exactly. The HostNexus "99.9% Uptime Guarantee" is based on a per month basis, as it should be.

So it really looks like this:

24 x 31 (oct) = 744 hours servers been down for 30 or so - 4.03 % downtime

** And that is counting one outage. With the rebuilding of the server there maybe more, of course minor.

If you were to track this on a yearly basis then yes this one outage is small. BTW where is the uptime status keep. If we're all doing our own calculation, we could be flawed. I think the uptime has been pretty good this month and overall. Some past months, not so well. But really, it's just my perspective. That I know of HostNexus doesn't make any info available as the the running uptime percentage of server, monthly or yearly.

I guess I was a little optimistic in saying 2 hours. I believe it got done in 4 or 5.

The server shows up via the server monitor, but the sites are going down intermittently.

Lots of server errors when you try and connect to the site(s).

Is the server still being fixed or is there some other error?
