Registering Nameservers at NAMEALERTS.com
-----------------------------------------------------------
The first part of these instructions are for registering new nameservers for your domain.
If you are ALSO setting up your own web hosting domain and want to use CUSTOM nameservers, you have an additional step. Actually, its best to complete this step FIRST ... scroll down for the instructions on "Registering CUSTOM Nameservers at NAMEALERTS.com"
-----------------------------------------------------------
Registering Nameservers at NAMEALERTS.com
-----------------------------------------------------------
Login to your account at NameAlerts.com
You'll initailly see an "Account Overview" page
From the menu on the left,
--> select "CURRENT DOMAINS"
From the list of your domains,
--> select the domain whose nameservers
you want to change.
You will be taken to the "Domain Management" page.
--> select "Manage DNS Servers (Nameservers)"
You will be taken to the "Manage DNS Servers" page.
You will be presented with 2 radio buttons. Select the 2nd option
--> "Use other DNS servers "
Next, enter your name servers as given in your confirmation email.
i.e., NS1.YOURDOMAIN.COM, NS2.YOURDOMAIN.COM
Be sure to click the UPDATE button.
------------------------------------------
Registering
CUSTOM NAMESERVERS FOR
YOUR WEB HOSTING COMPANY
------------------------------------------
If you are setting up your web hosting company's domain and need to create CUSTOM nameservers (so that your clients see your nameservers in a WHOIS search), the process is slightly different.
IMPORTANT: You will need to do these steps, then do the steps above too in order to point your domain to your own custom nameservers.
Login to your account at NameAlerts.com
You'll initailly see an "Account Overview" page
From the menu on the left,
--> select "CURRENT DOMAINS"
From the list of your domains,
--> select the domain whose nameservers
you want to change.
You will be taken to the "Domain Management" page.
*Select "Create/Update/Delete Nameservers Based On This Domain"
If you have NEVER HAD CUSTOM nameservers based on this domain before (i.e., its a brand new domain), then use the CREATE nameservers section of the form and fill in the information.
Click the CREATE button.
You will have to repeat this process to create the second nameserver.
*****
If you HAVE used custom nameservers before (maybe you moved this domain from another reseller account?) ... then use the UPDATE section of the form.
--> Enter your 1st nameserver
--> Fill in your OLD IP address (from your previous reseller account).
--> Enter your NEW IP address (from hostnexus or resellernexus)
Click the UPDATE button.
You will have to repeat this process for your 2nd nameserver.
WHEW!
Now ... you need to follow the above process in "Registering Nameservers at NAMEALERTS.com" to set your web hosting domain to your own nameservers.
Hope this helps!

GoDaddy update
Since GoDaddy have changed their interface, I thought I would post the new instructions that I received from their support staff:
• Select 'Manage Domains' from the 'Domain Names' menu
• Click on the domain you wish to configure name servers for
• Click the '+' next to 'Domain Host Summary' from the menu that appears to the right
• Click on the link named 'Click here to see details or to modify'
• Enter the first name server with its IP address
• Click the green 'Save Changes' button
• Click 'Add New Host' to register additional server names
Hope that saves you some time!

The latest GoDaddy update
Thought I would post the updated instructions for GoDaddy. Hope this helps.
To Register Your Own Name Servers Using the NEW Domain Control Center
1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Under the Domain Names section, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
3. In your list of domain names, click on the domain name you want to modify. The details for the selected domain display on the page.
4. In the Host Summary section (lower left), click View/Modify Detail.
5. Under Set Hosts, enter your nameserver Host names, along with their corresponding IP address, and click OK.
Allow 4-8 hours for .COM and .NET domains and about 24-48 hours for all other domain extensions for the name servers to be registered.

More DNS Questions
Hi There:
I ordered my reseller account today and I'm in the midst of getting it setup. First, let me start by saying that I am moving from another reseller company so I have custom nameservers already setup with my domain registrar.
I went in to manage (add) the new nameservers with OpenSRS and realized that one of them is the same as my newly issued nameservers. (I realize that the IP address will be different).
Here's my question...By adding these new name servers, will that automatically get the ball rolling to have my site propagate at the new host? I wasn't sure if there was an additional step and I'm not quite ready to have the site live on HN servers yet. (I noticed some CF bugs to work out on here after uploading and testing). Secondly, should I change the nameserver IP for the nameserver that is the same as one of my newly appointed names?
Now, I have added a client account to the second IP address that was provided but have not gone in to OpenSRS to change the nameservers. However, when I whet through Plesk to view the DNS records for this new client, I noticed it list's the nameservers as ns.theirdomain.com, instead of mine. How do I make sure that my clients nameservers show up as my company?
Hope that didn't confuse anyone...and thanks in advance for the assistance.
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
If you simply edit the IP of your existing nameservers at OpenSRS it will start the propagation to your account on Boson server right away. So only when you are ready to move all your domains over should you do that. Altenatively, if you want to move the domains over one at a time you could either register new nameservers and use those for the domains you are moving over so other domains aren't affected or you could use the generaic nameservers as laid out in your Activation email.
As for the DNS in Plesk, a client specific DNS template is something Plesk should add and I mention it to them before and after every new release because it would be a nice feature. Until they add that you can delete the A record and NS records for "clientdomain.com" and replace with with 2 NS records for ns.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com.

1and1 / 1&1
- Login to your admin panel
- Click Domains
- Click New and choose Create Subdomain
- Enter ns in the text box and choose your domain from the drop-down-list
- Click OK
- Repeat the above steps for ns2.yourdomain.com
- You should see your two new subdomains listed here. Put a check in the box next to ns.yourdomain.com
- Click the small down arrow next to the DNS button and choose Edit DNS Settings
- Under Advanced DNS Settings put a dot in the radio button next to Other IP address and type the IP that was given to you for ns.yourdomain.com in your Account Activation Email from HostNexus
- Click OK
- Repeat steps 7-10 for ns2.yourdomain.com
- Wait patiently for propagation to complete.

Update for Active-Domain
In case anyone is interested, Active-Domain.com has changed their nameserver registration procedure, this is the updated and much simpler process.
1. Login to domain manager https://domainpanel.com/
2. On main page click on "Manage Nameserver" link
3. Under "Register a New DNS NameServer", enter new nameserver and ip address
4. Click submit
5. Propagation completes within 48 hours
6. When it completes you can point your domain towards the new nameserver under "Change Nameserver Information".
7. If the propagation has not yet completed you will receive an error message when you try to change the nameserver information.

on GoDaddy
Here's how I did it on GoDaddy:
Domains link > click My Domain Names
Click on domain name you want to modify
Under "Host Summary" box, click View/Modify Detail
Add "NS" in the "Host Name 1" box and then the IP number for your server
Add "NS2" in the "Host Name 2" box and then the second IP number
Click OK

ENOM
1) Login to account
2) From the top menu select Domains > Register a Nameserver
3) Add the name and IP address
4) Rinse and repeat for additional nameservers
