Custom Error Docs

I see in Plesk and option under hosting set-up that says "custom error docs". I've checked that box for one of my client's sites, and uploaded HTML pages not_found.html, missing.html, and 404.html. Still I don't see a custom error page. Can I choose my own page name (specifically I'd like it to end in .shtml) and if so, where do I specify the page name?

I'd follow the tutorial here:

got it, thanks

OK. Thanks Mike. I was able to get that working. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through if you want to change the default page name to a .shtml or .php extension. But I can live with that. not_found.html will work OK for me most of the time, and that is quite easy to replace.
