OK so let me see if I can explain my question.

In the DNS settings for a domain, I am seeing, on some but not all, a record like:

69.72.138.52/24 PTR blablabla.com

What in the world is this? And, where did it come from?

I've only checked about half of my domains and some have it and some don't.

Talk to me like I'm a 12 year old. Well at least 6.

OK so I found a partial answer at http://forums.serverbeach.com/showthread.php?t=5469

The record gives a choice of 4, 8, 24.

So this remains a mystery.

The /24 after an IP address usually denotes a range, in this case 24 bits. So basically it's using the first 3 numbers, and not the last three. This means it resolves to a class C address (equivalent of subnet 255.255.255.0)
