Intermittent Email Issues

Hi There:

Have any other resellers out there experienced a problem with intermittent email for their clients? I've just setup all of my clients on a Windows reseller plan, switching from another company that had a tremendous amount of problems with their email.

I have set my client's email quota a number of different ways, trying to find something that works and the majority of them are OK at 20MB capacity. I have had to manually set the quota to 20000 KB rather than the default of 20MB. Why, I have no clue, but otherwise it caused emails to bounce back indicating that the mail quota had been reached...please clean out your mailbox.

Today, I have one client in particular that has an intermittent problem. I (with her permission) have been monitoring her email account and it has remained relatively empty (she has been downloading off and on today). Even with the mailbox empty, the postmaster still bounces emails indicating that the quota has been reached. These have been emails well under the capacity size (2KB and 941KB). I myself have had test messages bounce back when sending to her account so I've witnessed it first hand.

I was in touch with Tech Support who looked into it as well. (And very quickly I will add in their defence). They indicate that the server is working fine, the logs aren't showing any issues for her account etc.

I'm sort of at a loss and wondered if anyone else has come across this issue. Being fellow resellers, I'm sure you can appreciate how not having an answer to a problem you know is happening makes you look bad in the eyes of your client.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

You need to be careful with the quotas as there are a few. And if you get bounce issues due to "mailbox full" or something then you should just increase it. I kind of favour a near unlimited setting for mailbox quota in case a client receives alot of spam when they are away or something. Also you can set an overall "hard" limit on the domain itself in the domain's Setup section. That quota would apply to not just mail but uploaded files too and if the limit was reached the client wouldn't be able to upload files and mail would bounce.

If you still have doubts or still get some problems please make me aware of any ticket you may have on the issue so I can take a look.

Hi Laurence:

Thanks for the reply. Tech Support was able to reconfigure everything fairly quickly after I had posted the original message. Although there wasn't really an explanation (and I have a feeling it had to do with the quotas), all has been working perfectly since.

Thanks again,

Kelly
