Transferring a Domain

I had a site with "freehostspace.com"...ever hear of them? Well, it appears as they have now gone broke and Im looking for a new host. I did register my domain thru them, for 1 yr.

So if I sign up here, will I have to pay to transfer the domain to your server? I cannot log in to my site or administration thru them because they are offline, so how would I transfer it?

I'm really mad now because I gave them $35 a month ago for 1 yr of a site and now they are shut down "due to failure to pay debts". I really need a reliable host!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I guess you're talking about your domain name http://www.bruceleibowitz.net/ then it seems to be directly registered with freehostspace.com. Now, at a guess, I'd say they probably used the same provider for your name as their own. Here's a whois on their name:

Name servers:
NS.DNSWITHUS.COM
NS2.DNSWITHUS.COM

Creation date: 2001-06-14 22:54:05
Expiration date : 2003-06-14 22:54:05
So, try contacting cheaphostonline.net directly at domreg@cheaphostonline.net and ask them if they are indeed the registrar. If they are, ask them to modify the nameserver record to:

ns.hostnexus7.com
ns2.hostnexus7.com

.....and then sign up for an account here when you know it's being done. That's all I can recommend, I'm afraid. This situation is very unfortunate with these second rate hosts popping up, promising the world and disappearing a few months later with sites and names etc.

Transferring DNS is totally free, by the way. We could initiate a registrar transfer where we would become your registrar and that costs an extra domain year as we tack on a year top your domain. Domains with us are only $12.95.

Let us know what you find out at @cheaphostonline.net.

Bruce,
In regard to your lost $35.00. All may not be lost IF you paid with a credit card. If you did, contact your credit card company, explain the situation, they may ask for documentation or info from your statement. But they often will refund your money.

Been through the same thing a few months ago, but was able to get a refund through the main host, as I had gone through a reseller.

Hope you are able to get some refund, even if partial.

Credit Card

Yes, I used a credit card and will contact them. thanks for the tip!

My site has come back up. Yesterday it was up and down...now it is up at this time. See if it works: http://www.bruceleibowitz.net

However, the main page of the company I signed up with is gone (http://www.freehostspace.com) so I do not know what is going to happen. I get no reply to support requests from cheaphostonline, which is supposed to have some sort of agreement with the freehostspace people.

I'm really confused and dont know what is going to happen. Or if I jump ship, and they somehow continue the freehostspace service.

Bruce,
If you purchased a Domain for $35, you have little chance of getting a refund.
Even if you wanted to transfer Registrars, you couldn't, because Enom has a Registrar-lock on your domain. It can not be transfered until you get them to unlock it for you.
I have contacts at Enom that can tell you what you need to do to get it released, or I can try to transfer it for you.
E-mail me if you need help.
