ColdFusion on Windows vs Linux

What are the advantages/disadvantages to having a ColdFusion site on Windows vs Linux? I've heard that CF runs better on Windows and I want to use MS SQL which is on Windows...anything else?

I understand that if using a VPS I have to use Linux and connect to a MS SQL on a Windows and its an additional charge. Do I have that correct?

Anything else I should know?

Hi Kelley,

I don't really think it runs better on one or the other. Personally I think Linux might be a bit more stable but our CF Linux servers are lighter loaded than the Windows one so that might be a factor. If you get a Coldfusion VPS and want to connect to MSSQL you will have to get a separate Windows accounts and manually create MSSQL databases there and connect remotely. There is no MSSQL server support on Plesk Linux so you can't create MSSQL from the VPS like you could on Windows.

Does anyone have any preference or thoughts on MSSQL vs MySQL? Pros and cons either way?
