Upgrade from Reseller to VPS ?

I currently have a VirtNex-4 or something (20/200GB) which was the last Reseller plan in the old times -- if I remember well. Now it's the very first... and for a much much smaller fee...

As we are encouraged to upgrade, I was lurking towards VPS3* or VPS4 with an unlimited Plesk which, if I'm good with this arithmetic, would make roughly the same amount I'm paying now with 5 times more disk space and bandwidth.

Few questions tho:
- what are the advantage or inconvenient of both? VPS4 and nexusSUPREME have a similar pricetag for similar disk/bandwidth (I just have to add Plesk).
- is a seamless transfer possible between my old shared hosting and VPS?
- can I have some Ruby on a VPS along with regular PHP? (But I guess the answer would be "yes, but with weak performances compared to a dedicated Ruby hosting.)

I carve to be root, to mess things up and have to require your excellent support!

Thanks and congrats'

* Well, unless the 7GB disk is not a typo...

Another client asked this in Sales and this was my reply:

Well, price mainly. Reseller accounts are generally cheaper. Even if you
got our entry level VPS1 you are advised to have at least 384mb total ram
so the extra 128mb memory costs an additional $7.50. Plus there is Plesk
licencing.

The memory limit on a VPS is very real and if your VPS caps out on ram
Virtuozzo kills services to bring it within range of its memory limit.
We've lots of clients move to VPS and are suprised at the amount of ram
they use. On a reseller account you have access to all the server's
memory and all the server's CPU (which would get you into trouble if that
usage was persistent but you can still burst up to those levels).

So a VPS really gives you less or finite power with more flexibility for
an often higher cost. Hence reseller plans definitely have their positive
points.

Yep, our famous and seamless migration service applies.

Yep, we can install our Rails stack (Ruby Enterprise/mod_rails (Passenger).

Where do you see 7gb?

That's why I didn't ask via email -- I quickly looked for this in other threads and didn't find any answer.

VPS Hosting powered by Virtuozzo - HostNexus (see screenshot)

I was aiming for a VPS3 or 4 anyway. But do you mean that the bigger the plan, the more RAM it needs? Is there a way to have an idea, on a typical month, of how much RAM my Reseller account uses? If there are peaks?

The nexusSUPREME looks nice too, but, even if I wouldn't use it daily, the root access is definitely something I would like to have. To repair authorizations, or copy stuff from one server to another, for example. I can ask support, but it's so mundane... I hate to bother people with that.

Thanks, 4th typo of the day fixed!

Hard to say for sure how much Ram you need but 512mb is going to be enough to handle a fair few domains. We have one VPS currently that has 250 domains and 768mb Ram and the VPS is at 95% mem usage all the time and is capping out every 15 minutes on average (client refuses to add more ram though). We have a program on that VPS4 that restarts services when Virtuozzo kills them. It needs 1GB minimum. There's another VPS4 that is capping out alot with 150 domains. So I would say a rule of thumb is 50 domains/512mb, 100 domains/768mb, 150 domains/1gb (upwards of 256mb per 50 domains. But that first VPS4 with 250 domains I reckon would run fine with 1280mb.
