Question Just a few unanswered questions... (Site structure, response, billing, etc.)

Greetings,

I've been searching around for a solid and reliable CF/SQL host for a while now and just happen to come across NH. I've tried a couple others in the past but found myself rather disappointed only after spending the money. I tend to stay away from hosts that use forums for support as it's typically not a good sign but after browsing around for a few days it looks like you guys have your act together.

I spent the better part of last night searching the forums but still have a few unanswered questions so here we go...

The most important one is site structure... It's hard to ask outright so I'll have to give an example from a previous bad experience. The last CF host I used offered multiple domains under one account, however, after two months with them I started to roll out my other domains and found that no matter what I tried the link would always reflect the primary domain. In other words, if I hosted www.123.com under my primary domain www.abc.com the links would always show up as www.abc.com/123.com_subfolder/page.html. Now I don't care that they operate out of a subfolder cause it's just as easy to maintain either way but I need the sites to appear independent regardless of where the users are in them. Is this a problem at NH or is there at least a workaround for it? The last host had a great service but no reasonable solution to this so I had to drop them. I won't shell out $30+/month for each site to overcome that at least until the traffic received justifies it.

Second, and a heck of a lot shorter. How are server ping times from around the country, specifically the west coast area. I'm in WI so servers in NJ are just as good as any to me but I have a ton of users out west. For me to ping the servers would be pointless so if anyone can chime in with some ping results from out west I'd appreciate it.

And last, for now... I'd like to arrange my billing to fall on a certain date every month as I like to keep things orderly, organized, in sync and easy to keep track of (the curse of being a nitpicky anal-retentive perfectionist) . I'll gladly take a partial months service and pay for the whole month to make things easier for me down the line. Just let me know if it's doable.

By the way, the sooner I switch the better. There's nothing worse than getting nickel and dimed to death for every little thing over at GoDaddy and then getting slow server response times to boot

Thanks in advance for your help guys,
-Tim

a) No - each domain is completely and utterly separate. You can't ftp into one and have access to another (as you can in some control panels). They only appear grouped together in hte control panel for easy administration at that end, but as far and anything IP (ftp, TCP, HTTP etc) that it's all separate.

Your primary IP address (if you have your won) will always return one domain, but typing hte domain name will the that domain name.

Can't answer ping times - I'm in Australia and Australia doesn't have a good network infrstructure. I know when I'm in hte States and Canada I fall over backwards at how fast things are and start dreaming... so don;t worry about that.

Yes, payment on a particular date is doable (so I believe). You need to e-mail sales@hostnexus.com. They can send you a link to "pay now" and "pay monthly" and you go from there.

And support is done by ticket system. You get fast responses. The forum's a bit quiet, unfortunately. But there when needed.

I've been waiting to hear from an NH staff member to confirm Robs reply and in the meantime I googled for some NH reviews. All I can say is wow! If you're here looking to justify the purchase of an account just hop over to WebHostingTalk and consider it a done deal.

Here's the link to the first thread I looked at and it might as well have been the only one... http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=421226

As far as I'm concerned, I just booked my weekend with site backups to get ready for the switch. Gonna start off with CF Basic since my needs aren't entirely known yet with sites in the works plus it's easier to swallow $10/month while switching and adapting to a new server. I don't think that will last too long though as I'm already sizing up the CF Pro package and from what I've read on the forum so far it sounds like upgrades are painless.

Thanks for the replies guys,
-Tim

I've been hosting with HN for a long time now.

NH hosting and support is truly top notch.

Just like any other, there are bumps in the road but they are handled very quickly.

I have two reseller accounts, one linux on epsilon and the other a windows on Positron. You can look at the server uptimes to see that things run good.
