Question Accessing Customer's Control Panel

Hello Everyone.

I have managed to upload a few of my sites.

I was wondering if any of you Pleski's can help me.

How does one get to the Control panel for the customer???

I have tried a few things... nothing like poking around in the dark. But haven't discovered the secret yet.

Thanks a bunch!

Sylvia

Sylvia,

The Domain User function in Plesk assigns as many passwords to an accont as you want. Then the Domain User logs in with their domain name.

Exclamation Good Grief

I posted this elsewhere but I will ad it here too.

Let me make sure I understand this
1. Create domain
2. within newly created domain, Set Preferences
3. Set up Hosting and options
4. Change DNS Settings
5. Set domain user... username and PW
6. Set up Mail ???

Then Log out of Plesk...

Use https://64.49.223.31:8443/login.php3 before resellers domain resolves and
https://www.resellerdomain.com:8443 after resellers domain resolves.

Log in with Customer User name
and Customer Password.

Or Can the customer eventually use their own... As in
https://www.customerdomain.com:8443 To log in???

I'm confused too.

Except my first customer is a subdomain. And I cannot seem to log in with her account name and password anywhere.

Is there something silly I am missing?

Wen (who thought she had locked the account somehow in error...but that doesn't seem to be the problem...)

I reside in the state of confustion, USA

Wen, here is what I have discovered.

If the Client's Domain name has resolved.
they can use their domain name to get into their Control Panel

https://www.clientdomain.com:8443

Their user name is: Clientdomain.com
Their password is: as assigned

So it follows that

https://subdomain.clientdomain.com:8443

Should work the same way. But what do I know

Hope this helps... and yes... I am going to write a tutorial

Sylvia

Lightbulb Eureka!

Thanks Sylvia!

I knew it had to be something silly since her URL worked and she had FTP access...

My confusion was is that my login is just my username - not my domain name. I assumed hers would just be her username as well and not username.domain.com - which did work for anyone else who has the confusion as well.

Thanks so much!

Wen (who doesn't want to think about how long she spent trying to figure that out...)

Creating a Subdomain

Creating a Subdomain

Log into Plesk. On the main page you will see a button that says "New Domain" - click it.

Uncheck the "WWW" box.

Type in your new subdomain - as subdomain.domain.com

Click "Update."

The new subdomain will be added to your main page list of sites. The subdomain is managed just like the other sites. You will need to go through and adjust "Preferences" and "Hosting" just like you would for a new domain.

If the subdomain is for a new client, you need to set up a "Domain User" as well.

You also will need to go into DNS and switch the nameservers for the domain.

Remember that the users login name for the control panel will be subdomain.domain.com.

It is a lot easier when you remember that last point!

Lol!

I have lots of experience telling people what to...errr...explaining things to people.

I am a professional recipe developer by trade and have created thousands of recipes and hundreds of how to articles.

Plus I have been on the web since '92 and frequently find myself writing tutorials and explaining things to people...

I just have to remember to snap out of that mode when talking casually to people because sometimes I just slide into the wording and tone without even realizing it because I do it so much...
