Question How long before site is available to surf?

I am wondering how long it takes a site to be available for others to view on the web once it is set up in Plesk?

It seems like sometimes I can view them in my browser almost immediately and others take longer, a day or so. I have nameserves already set up that I use for all the sites I setup. That originally took about 48 hours to "propagate."

Does it take time for each individual site to propagate also? Or if I use the same nameservers do my sites go live immediately?

I know this is a newbie question, but I wonder whats going on when some sites are available quickly and others take a while.

TIA

Jimbo

Hi,

Are you talking about adding a completely new site then modifying the DNS record at the registrar? Plesk just follows global DNS. When you set up a new domain, all is ready to receive domain requests once browsers know where to find it.

So it doesn't matter what you do in Plesk, it all depends on general propagation. If they propagate quickly, that's just lucky.

Ok... I just realized, thanks to you , that the sites that were immediate I had setup dns at the registrar a number of days prior to setting things up here at HN. The one I was doing yesterday I just registered the same day.

So the lag is in propagation from the registrar. Not here. Great.
Seems obvious now.

Thannks
