gmail and hostnexus

I like the threaded conversations and spam filtering of Gmail. So I am trying to configure the MX settings in plesk. I have a few questions. I have updated the mx settings per :
Configuring Your MX Records: Other domain hosts - Google Apps Help

When I try to update the cname I get an error message:
Error: CNAME DNS zone record cannot coexist with other DNS records in the same zone.

not sure what to do next.??

Jim

It's probably not possible. The mail on the server is handled by a common mail system across all domains - the IP addresses are also the same for all domains on the server (for mail). Those settings are probably protected by Plesk and when you try to add others, it complains.

I's at different approach, but you could just set up mail forwarding, or set Gmail to pull in email by POP. You need to set up the individual accounts on the server, but this is no bad thing as it help you keep control of them.

Hey jimbo, ive setup google apps on at least 10 different domains I have hosted with HostNexus - works beautifully.

Looking at your post, it sounds like you have got past the MX record stage, and are now setting up a CNAME record to easily access your google apps account (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com)?

If thats the case you need to first delete the existing mail.yourdomain.com record (it probably points to your hostnexus IP address). Once thats gone you should be able to add your CNAME record.

Also disable the mail service for this domain within plesk. If you still have probs let me know.

Cheers
Evan
