Are we ever going to get back the ability to make backups?

I am exceedingly disappointed in the bizarre decision to take away people's ability to make backups. Will this functionality ever be returned to customers?

One hundred people making backups at the same kind of makes the server crash.

It didn't before. Regardless, if that's the case, then just stagger them out. It's the epitome of irresponsibility to not have a backup, and it's asinine to demand that I start a ticket every night to get a regular backup.

The automatic backup is one of the reasons that I chose HostNexus and paid my money, and now you've decided to just drop the axe on that with no announcement and no discussion whatsoever.

Pretty damn crappy, from a customer service perspective.

Wait, what? HN isn't doing backups anymore?

That's correct. If you go into your plexk, there is no way to do backups. The support center told me that if I want a backup, I have to open a ticket. This appears to be corroborated by NexDog above.

Frankly, I'm just flabbergasted at this sudden change that makes absolutely less than zero sense.

As you can see from here, it was very easy to do just a few weeks ago.

Now, if you try to back up, you get this:

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Star, roller is completely incorrect and I'm flabbergasted he would make such a claim that makes zero sense.

Of course we backup everybody's data daily - to remote backup servers. Plus servers are protected by RAID 10 arrays.

Your data is safe.

roller, you might think it makes no sense to not allow clients to take backups but it makes perfect sense to us. You can still backup your databases by cron (check my blog post). I don't use Plesk's backup functions to backup HostNexus files as all files are on my computer. I do backup the databases though via cron. Even though the server has its own backup system. You can even use cron to copy and tar/zip files.

So yes, we backup your data, and yes, you can backup your own data. You just can't use Plesk to do it at this time because it causes servers to crash.

The "claim" is specifically what your support department told me. It's not something that I just made up. They were most specific about it: if I wanted a backup, I had to submit a ticket. The reason I brought it here was because it did indeed make no sense.

What made no sense to me was the notion that no backup was occurring at all. I'm fine with you doing backups however you choose, but I do wish someone had bothered explaining this from the start. All of this confusion could have been avoided if someone had simply said "we back everything up to remote servers now once every 24 hours."

All the techs know we backup and where we backup and know how to restore from the backup servers. So sounds like a bit of miscommnication. I'm sure the tech was just talking about the Plesk backup function. The remote backup solution has been in place for at least 3 years, maybe 5. We moved away from disk-to-disk backups due to the load they cause when backing up and also due to a 100% data loss on a server that went into a meltdown. So now RAID 10 plus remote backup makes these servers pretty much bullet-proof. Would be the icing on the cake to give all clients teh ability to use Plesk's backup function too. And if anyone really wants it, just PM me with your name as it appears in Plesk and I'll activate it for you. If you have huge domains then I advise against using the Plesk backup as it really will bog down the server.

For files asking Support to give you a tarball once a week should be acceptable and for MySQl backups just use the cron I talked about in my blog post.
