php safe mode

oddly enough, on one server there is a provision to check/uncheck a box for php safe mode .. but on alpha this doesn't seem to be the case ..

is there another secret way of disabling safe mode for php?

or is just dear old alpha with her little whimsical ways?

Probably not... ther are ways you can do it, but I'm guessing these are locked out at a server configuration level. But you can try init_set() in PHP. Check http://au2.php.net/features.safe-mode for the options.

The PHP safe_mode directive cannot be adjusted in a PHP script nor in .htaccess file.

If alpha server has PHP set to safe mode by default and Plesk does not have the option to disable it, you will need to contact support. Or transfer to a server that has the safe mode checkbox option.
