phpbb Forum and disk usage
I purged old messages from my Forum, which uses phpbb. I expected that to reduce my disk usage. However, going back the next day, my disk usage actually increased. Is there an additional step needed to get the purged messages to not show as taking disk space?

Should be able to go into Plesk, domain, databases, specific database and see attached icon...click on that and will get a popup of phpmyAdmin. Make sure pop-ups not disabled.

OK. I nosed around and found where I could optimize the database. I know that it generally takes a day for this to reflect in what shows in Plesk, so I will check tomorrow to see if disk space actually reduced.

Bill,
Generally phpbb will archive the messages in the forums, rather than delete them altogether. You can also set phpbb to do this on a regular basis, without your intervention.
Also, if your forum is pretty old, you should optimize the database every now and then. Basically that feature will reindex all your forum, making it work much faster. (loading times)

Unfortunately optimizing the database doesn't seem to do diddly squat. I have purged 3 years of messages from my forum, and then optimized the forum database. Result: disk space usage increased.

It seems perhaps the bulk of the disk space may not be by the entries themselves, perhaps a rebuild (not sure exactly how) of some of the indexes may be required. Also- I believe the phpBB sessions table and the search terms tables can grow quite large and the optimize would not purge them...
You can see the index size in phpmyAdmin under structure where it states database size...
I'll go with Lorand in the reindex, wasn't sure if it did that.
Just a thought.

Bill,
If reindexing the database did not help, i would search the forums at phpBB and see what they say there.
