Custom Nameservers

Hi Everyone,

I've just signed up here and already my clueless self has run up against a problem.

I am on the CF-Basic reseller plan and have been assigned the following nameservers:

ns33.dns-fusion.com
208.116.45.90
ns34.dns-fusion.com
208.116.45.91

However I would like my nameservers configured as:

ns1.cccwebmedia.com
ns2.cccwebmedia.com

So I raised a support ticket and they advised:

"You should be able to do that by pointinting ns1.cccwebmedia.com and ns2.cccwebmedia.com to Gluon server's IPs 208.116.45.90, 208.116.45.91
Then set the NS records in Plesk > DNS for your domain."

So far so good I can go to my domain registrar and point ns1.cccwebmedia.com -> 208.116.45.90 and ns2.cccwebmedia.com -> 208.116.45.91 - am I on the right track so far?

The next bit is where I start to get lost - ie what should all my dns entries in plesk look like so that it is correctly set up to use the cccwebmedia nameservers and also to make sure plesk automatically uses them for all new domains added.

I did ask support for help but their reply didn't really help me at all:

"If the records are correctly set at the registrar Plesk show see them. If not you can set the manually very easy.
Please check this link for a complete tutorial.
http://www.swsoft.com/en/products/plesk8/flash/ > click on Managing your DNS zones"

So if anyone can point me in the direction of an idiots guide to this I would be most grateful.

Thank You
Michael

Grr - I just spent ages adding on my further progress to my original post and went to post it and it said the time limit for editing had passed

So let's try again - I think I'm halfway there thanks to a tutorial I found on another hosts site (Hostnexus if they could do it why couldnt you? ). These are the steps I took:

Went to my domain registrar and pointed ns1.cccwebmedia.com -> 208.116.45.90 and ns2.cccwebmedia.com -> 208.116.45.91

Then into plesk and DNS for cccwebmedia.com:

1)deleted the following:
cccwebmedia.com NS ns.cccwebmedia.com
ns.cccwebmedia.com A 208.116.45.91

2)added the following:
cccwebmedia.com NS ns1.cccwebmedia.com
cccwebmedia.com NS ns2.cccwebmedia.com

3)added the following
ns1.cccwebmedia.com A 208.116.45.90
ns2.cccwebmedia.com A 208.116.45.91

So I think all I need to do now is go back to my registrar and change ns1/2.oldhost.com -> ns1/2.cccwebmedia.com

Is all of the above correct?

This just leaves me with the problem of what happens with any new domains I create - the tutorial mentioned steps I could take in the server section in plesk so I could have all newly created domains using ns1/2.cccwebmedia.com automatically but I do not have a server section in my plesk.

So I'm guessing I'm going to have to do changes to the dns of every domain I create - but will I have to do all 3 of the above steps or just 1 and 2?

That's all you needed to do. Nothing else. Unless you are doing anything super-special, you never need to change the DNS entries in Plesk.

The bit about nameservers is usually supplied in the introductory e-mail, but as there are so many different registrars and interfaces, there's a forum thread about how to do this with each registrar as opposed to a sinlge tutorial.
