Servers now WAP enabled
Our servers now fully support WAP file extensions (.wml). Be very careful when coding XML. XML syntax is very strict because it is compiled by an interpreter before it hits the phone.

I'm not going to touch it myself of course
I wouldn't trust myself (incompetence on my part)
but WAP is all the go now isn't it ? there are so many news sources (that's what I'm into) that now offer WAP
congrats

too bad Australia didn't really take up WAP, partly because of Telstra, and the government for not integrating WAP with its current Telco Infrastructure.... SUCKS TO THEM I TELL YA!

TELSTRA SUX i would use WAP all the time to check email and stuff if it was cheaper, but at the moment it costs the same per minute as a peak call.
i hear that the GPRS2 fones (always connected) are ment to be better, but i dont know what it costs or even if its supported by telstra

GPRS is supported in Australia now (by Optus and Telstra at least anyway).
The other difference with GPRS is that you don't pay for how long you're connected for (since you can leave it connected all the time), but rather how much data you download.
Hopefully this will eventually mean it won't cost a small fortune to do simple things like check movie timetables - currently you're pretty much better off finding a public phone, feeding it a pocketful of shrapnel and dialing one of those 1900 numbers. Or in the case of news - just buying a newspaper!

my thoughts exactly ausref, the government needs to get its head out of its A$$ when it comes to technology...so far they have made mistake after mistake. prime example - broadband issues
the problem is that both parties are too old and set in their ways and there so called technological advisors are doing a piss poor effort at convincing them of the value of new technologies etc.

that's what sucks about Australia, we don't have the infrastructure to support all of the above mentioned... my opinion of Telstra being sold is starting to become more stronger...
I guess at the end of the day, does buying a newspaper outweight the convenience of having a GPRS/WAP/G3? You also have to take into consideration your tools/hardware? Would you prefer to read your email in a tiny screen? and have to type your respones with a phone-keyboard? We did a study of this back at uni, and we found that 85% of average australians would prefer buying a newspaper, and reading their emails in a proper pc. the 15% that did say yes, where actually IT professionals...
because we don't have the infrastructure, we won't have the market... so until Telstra gets sold, or Telstra co-operates with the government/ or the government gets its act together, or Telstra starts to roll out broadband again, or ADSL gets cheaper... then I don't see anything for Australians in the near future...

i am told that in signapore u get hardcore bandwidth connections for the price of our dialups, and if u tell someone that u have a 56kb connection at home in australia u get laughed at the government should take note of these technologically developed countries...
Also a G3 mobile network in Aus would be sweet because u can send colour movies and pics, sounds etc to and from your fone
