Question My first few questions...

I am new to HostNexus and thought I would throw out my first few questions in here rather than hunt down (i.e. stalk) Laurence specifically. I'm sure there will be more questions but this is what's on my mind right now.

1. Is ASP.NET 3.5 scheduled to be installed on PION? If not should I raise a ticket to have that done?

2. Are the stats for disk space, bandwidth and domains allowed reported correctly in PLESK? They are close to what they should be when I log into TAURUS, but WAY off in PION.

3. Having never worked with a reseller Control Panel - I don't know what I don't know. I am worried that I will fail to set something correctly simply because I never knew it was recommended. Do you have any advice regarding settings that should be considered? (I am on the reseller plans but am not actually reselling. I am the only person that will be working on any of the domains hosted under my plan.)

4. My previous host handled all the SPAM protection settings for my domains - now that I have more control over this - what do I need to do to ensure low SPAM levels from the get-go?

Thanks for your time. I look forward to a long stay at HostNexus.

- Brandi

1. You need to stalk Laurance (he's the one who schedules the technological improvements and monitors how others fare. Usually he'll wait until it's got over teethign problems before deploying.

2. They should be... some figures are calculated only daily. They also include log files, e-mail, sql, some temp files etc - these are not directly in your ftp folders but still count. E-mail is a biggie as you probably get a lot more e-mail than actuallly ends in your inbox due to spam filtering.

3. My advise is give as few permissions as possible to others. Let it be known they can do more then expand when they ask. That way, you discover new stuff one by one, and save the problems of reapiring someone's DNS entries that they stuffed up. If they need DNS entries, then you research it yourself first (for example). One to set, though, is log-ratation. Rotate logs every day, keep only three days worth, and prevent users from overwriting it.

4. Turn it on, train it. The default will let spam through (errs on the side of caution - most users would get irate if false positives prevented them from getting e-mail). To make it perfect, you need to train it.

ASP 3.5 is basically a few extra extensions in .NET 2.0 which are installed. So choose 2.0 and run your 3.5 code and it will work.

As for Spam, I have a score of 2 and I have a rather large whitelist. I filter spam and take a look in the spam folder once a day and whitelist anything legit that gets nabbed. I'm old school and only use webmail so I have a SquirrelMail integrated version of SpamAssassin which is rather cool and lets me whitelist/blacklist/Add as False Positive/Learn as Spam all from inside the actual mail itself. Works for me because i never have to leave my beloved webmail interface and set rules in Plesk but Plesk's training is better.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

I will keep ASP.NET 2.0 set and raise the issue if anything no worky. I will also commence SPAM training in PLESK once I get everything moved over. I just wasn't sure if there was anything in particular that was advised from the onset.

As for the stats. This is what I am seeing:

On PION the reseller plan should be:
20 GB storage; 200 GB bandwidth; 25 domains

The stats show:
"0 B of 3.4 GB used; 3.4 GB available"
"641 KB of 34.2 GB used; 34.2 GB available"
"1 of 75 domain(s) used; 74 available"

On TAURUS the plan is the same with unlimited domains. As you can see the stats are more close to the plan numbers than they are on the WIN box.

The stats show:
"59 KB of 195.3 GB used; 195.3 GB available"
"159 KB of 19.5 GB used; 19.5 GB available"
"1 of unlimited domains used"

Is this just a glitch in the WIN version of PLESK or does something need to be changed in the set up for my account? (Not complaining about the 50 extra domains BTW - feel free to leave those alone )

Again, thanks for the replies.

Looks like an old template was used to setup the account. Probably my fault. Fixed.
