Yesterday, August 24, 2010 at approximately 3:48PM we experienced a brief network outage for approximately 16 minutes. This issue is a result of a JunOS bug causing recent problems with one of our Juniper distribution stacks. As such, we are scheduling a maintenance window for this weekend, Sunday August 29th 01:00-04:00 EDT to make the necessary software upgrades. We expect the maintenance window to be no longer than 30 minutes, however if there are complications, we are reserving this 3 hour window for the maintenance.

While the outage caused today was related to this issue, we do not anticipate another outage to occur before the scheduled maintenance window. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your understanding that the matter is and will be resolved this upcoming weekend.

The VPS1 node was replaced earlier this month but the new server didn't come built with the requested memory (18gb) and only has 12gb. The node is going to run ALOT faster with the extra memory and we may further increase this to 24gb if needed. For now we are going to increase to 18gb Sunday 22nd August at 3am so please allow an hour for this maintenance window. The actual upgrade only takes 20 minutes but it takes a while for all the containers to come online.

Recently Atom server was replaced with a new machine and more memory (4gb total). However the new 64bit architecture allows CF to use more memory which is great for CF performance but not so great if the server doesn't have enough memory. So on Wednesday early morning at 3am we will increase the server's memory to 6gb total. Please allow 30 minutes downtime for this maintenance window.

Special thanks to Laurence this time - I should have said this before.

It was a lucky day for me nine years ago when I ran across Laurence in a forum somewhere and discovered his business.

I've been a happy member of HN since then. Often I hear of horror stories on the web with awful hosts, enough to make your blood run cold, how lucky can I be?

It's not just the excellent hosting, it's the manner in which Laurence treats his clients. I'm not just a number here, I'm a member of a community and I should remind myself every day of my good fortune

I'll do so in future

SPAM is over the top

We all hate spam - that's nothing new. What is new is the increased spam that the majority of my hosting clients are experiencing. But there is a twist this time - legitimate messages that they are sending out are being marked as spam at the recipients end (making them feel unprofessional and messages getting missed) as well as legitimate emails coming in being marked in the same fashion.

Add to that, many incoming emails are being marked as spam because there is a spam in the message, with the legitimate email sent as an attachment. What is up with that???

And finally, many people that I (and my clients) been able to email in the past are no longer to receive emails because their server is rejecting them and bouncing them back.

Is the mail server that Host Nexus uses marked in cyber world and no longer able to effectively handle business mail?

I'm about to loose my mind with the calls I'm getting from clients who are so fed up with this spam issue. I have been in touch with tech support so much and continually am told that there is no problem when I can often pinpoint the day that a change has occurred (both for me and an influx of calls from clients). Their suggestion is to use the spam filtering tool from the plesk control panel but that is not an option that any of my clients want to undertake themselves and I don't feel that they should have to.

I've considered moving them all over to gmail accounts but I did this for my own business and ran into other problems in the process.

Once and for all, can someone in the "know" tell me how to effectively control spam on my client's behalf since Tech Support is unable to help.
