Shopping Cart Options

Hey all, I've been away for quite awhile from all the HTML stuff, graphics, etc. Life just sort of got into the way of my fun/learning.

I currently have a store with a built in shopping cart........ it does a bit of activity but not enough right to justify the cost on a monthly basis.

I'd like to just move it over here to host nexus on my existing site.......
but well I am just down right confused on what I should use? which program...there are so many of them.

I did look at OScommerce/Zen Cart and it just leaves me scratching my head.... (hey I like this guy!) anyhow, I don't understand what I am suppose to do with the stuff (yes I know I upload it, but to what section? http, https? where?!) see, duh?

and I am a total newbie with this MYSQL stuff, haven't a friggin clue what it is...

is there like a step by step (os commerce for dummies) instructions somewhere? or something easier to use? this is why I set up a store with it all built in......

But I would like to get a handle on this other stuff....... any other suggestions for a shopping cart system I'd love to hear about

The problem with shopping carts is that tehy are complex in order to do everything. By the time yo add in different ordering options, different payment options, ability to cope with multiples of different sizes of hte same products, associated products, differring shipping rates to differing countries etc etc, then it gets messy. Then add in the ability to customise the template etc.

But, osCommerce is good. Although I don't use it anyware myself and cringe when I get asked ot fix things in it, it can do anything you need. The other one to look at is ZenCart (but similar issues).

To upload, go to the httpdocs directory and upload there. Or you can upload the version from Plesk - just click a few buttons and away you go.

Best place for help after that is osCommerce forums.

Do you have Application Vault? It's in there - just press "install a New Applicaiton" and choose osCommerce. If you can see that option, it may be disabled so raise a ticket.

Note - I've not tried it from there myself, and that version may be old and need security updates... if that's the case, possibly simpler to install your own, but this is an option.
