osCommerce user permissions changes

I'm setting up an osCommerce cart on a website (on Epsilon) and am running into a problem regarding user permissions. Under Admin, Tools, Define Languages I'm trying to configure some of these files (i.e. english.php) but when I click the file name I get an error that reads: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/httpd/vhosts/my-domain.com/httpdocs/osCommerce/includes/languages/english.php

CAN i change these permissions? Do I need to change the permissions back to their original state when I am done making changes. Can I make these changes via FTP using CHMOD?

You should be able to change this through your ftp program, yes.

I have the same issue but my FTP program fails to set access properties.
I'm trying to run a template installer.. installer fails because I don't have write access.. tried to change to 777 in Plesk and my FTP.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Isn't Boson a Windows Server? You need to change permissions in a different way for Windows - 777 won't do it.
