NexusPortal, launched last July as a new support site for HostNexus, is enjoying a very positive
community response. Visitors, as well as NexusPortal members, can now access a variety of scripts,
tools, and web site resources in a multi-faceted support network that goes far beyond the norm.
NexusPortal (http://www.nexusportal.net/), the new
support site for HostNexus, is enjoying a very positive response from members and visitors,
after a successful launch in July 2003.
Designed by Techskins, the separate support site grew from the development of new services at
HostNexus. "We wanted a central meeting place where members from a range of services on the Nexus network
could gather, get support, support each other, and have access to a wide range of tools," says HostNexus
Technical Director, Laurence Flynn.
The main feature of the new site is the community forum that powers the whole site. With
almost a thousand members and over 50,000 messages posted, there is a huge repository of
information available at NexusPortal. As the forums are indexed in Google and other search engines,
visitors from all over the net often access this material to benefit from authorative information on
the Plesk control panel, reseller hosting, advanced coding topics, as well as general web design and
search engine optimization advice.
Nexus members can also access a graphic user manual on how to use the Plesk control panel
installed on HostNexus servers, and a variety of step-by-step Flash tutorials. "We've gone a
step beyond normal support, and we also offer a section teaching people how to use CGI, CSS,
email programs, FTP programs, htaccess, PHP and MySQL as well as many other topics. Clients can
see at a glance if their server is up or down with uptime statistics and other useful stats like
server IPs, login URLS and hostnames," says Flynn.
The Resource section includes a Link Popularity Checker, Link Checker, Meta Tag Generator,
Password Generator, Webmail Customizer and a CHMOD helper. "We have collected some of the best
tools available on the net to assist our clients in many aspects of being a successful webmaster.
Some of these scripts were custom built by our in-house programmers," explains Flynn. The Resource
section also includes tips from an SEO specialist to help people generate free and targetted traffic
to their websites and as well as a wide selection of free tools that resellers can use to help power
their business.
Since HostNexus attracts many resellers, further expansion of the reseller section is planned.
"We are collecting case studies from successful resellers and will eventually publish these to help
start-up resellers on the right path to profitability," says Flynn. "We're also working on integrating
our helpdesk into the site and have a lot more articles on Search Engine Optimization to publish too."
Months of planning, designing and coding went into the launch of NexusPortal, but the warm
response from community members, as well as visitors, has proven the effort was well worthwhile.
"The investment in support levels that surpass the norm is something that we are very proud of at
HostNexus. We're finding a lot more clients are now getting involved in the community and prospective
clients that visit NexusPortal have also been duly impressed and that has helped sales," notes Flynn.
